Best words of advice: It's all about the the glass...
Take a look at any window in your house and you will see that the actual glass surface area accounts for 70 to 90 per cent of the total area of the window. From the early years of window development when window manufactures discovered the significant benefit of creating a double glazed window unit the focus on improving energy performance since then has concentrated on the glass. Advancements in filling the air space with inert gases such as Argon or Krypton, improving the edge ('spacer') material, sealing and gaskets have led to additional gains in energy performance. However the largest gains in energy performance have been in the heat reflective coatings applied to the glass. First generation LoE (known as 'hard coat') allowed the window to reflect more of the heat back into the room in the winter. The development of second generation coatings (referred to as 'soft coat') has led to major improvements again in heat reflectivity during the winter but also during the summer. Tests have shown that windows with second generation soft coats can improve energy savings versus a traditional Loe (hard coat) window by 15 to 20 per cent in the winter and up to 44 per cent savings in A/C usage in the summer. Yet there are still today many window companies that do not offer the new 'soft coat' technology.
Recently, Vinylbilt is one of the first manufactures in Canada to offer the new, industry leading LoE-180 glass, designed specifically for the Canadian climate. This LoE Glass, provides the Clearest, Highest Performance Glass on the market. In fact a double glazed window with LoE-180 will perform better than a triple glazed window with standard LoE. All windows include LoE and Argon Gas and Simply Clean Glass. The option to upgrade the glass to the more advanced 'soft coat' coatings such as LoE 272 or LoE 366 allows homeowners to gain increased energy savings year round by reducing heat gain in the summer.
In older homes with original non-insulated glass energy loss through windows can be significant. Replacing older windows with Vinylbilt insulated windows utilizing advanced heat reflective soft coatings on the glass can lead to reducing energy bills by 15 to 35 per cent.
We firmly believe that Vinylbilt offers the best value in windows in the market today.
